The Bay of Islands Maritime Park group was established in May 2006 to bring together a multiplicity of small community groups and create an integrated approach to the most pressing issues that face the natural values of the our land and coastal waters of the Bay of Islands. It became an incorporated society on 21st September 2007 to enable a cohesive approach and allow its working groups to apply for funding for projects that really make a difference to our marine the environment of the Bay.

Waking up to brimming biodiversity. Native naturally!

The vision of Bay of Islands Maritime Park Inc is healthier waters and naturally functioning ecosystems brimming with biodiversity. Communities are empowered to restore natural character and balance to the Bay of Islands, and create an area rich in biological, social and economic terms. Whether it concerns water pollution, unacceptable levels of sedimentation, or the decline of the fish populations, there is place for discussion and action.

Our mission is: Restoring native life on land, freshwater and sea. Dream by dream.

BOIMP Inc is administered by two semi-committees that operate in tandem. Both the Marine and Catchment Semi-committees each have their own co-Chair and co-Secretary together with a shared Treasurer. The Marine Semi-committee makes and is accountable for executive decisions for the marine working groups, currently "Fish Forever". The Catchment Semi-committee plays an equivalent role for the catchment working group, currently "Living Waters - Bay of Islands Wai-Ora".
